When it comes to restaurant favourites, this place is up there in my books. No, you won’t find any chefs hat awards, pressed linen or a sommelier at your disposal, this one is great for me because it just doesn’t even try. Located at the arse-end of King Street where the hoards never seem to make it, Curry on King serves up some of the best Indian and Pakistani food in town. It’s consistently delicious, spicy where it ought to be and very well-priced. It’s nice to have a local where you’re recognized and appreciated and it’s just a shame more people don’t know about them.

How many times have we been here? Who knows. I’ve run out of fingers and toes. I can vouch for the tandoori chicken, the vege samosas are to die for, as is most of the menu. The seafood dishes are great and the goat masala will warm your heart with a very flavourful punch.

The lamb moghul jalfarezi is rich, tangy, spicy and incredibly tender and the lamb saag gosht is heavenly with tender morsels of meat in a thick blend of spinach and spice. Sop up all of this with the garlic or cheese naan (strong enough to keep the vampires away) and satisfaction will come your way.

The wet dishes do come with a glistening layer of ghee so this is a true sign of food from the subcontinent. Don’t sit there and whinge about it, just scoop it to the side and put in an extra 20 minutes at the gym tomorrow.

I’ve never left here feeling unsatisfied and hungry.

If you’re not bloated from the rich curries the gulab jaman is the best I’ve tried, so far. Tender balls of milk dough, fried and then soaked in honey rosewater syrup. Divine.
