time for a vent

What is it that makes a restaurant think it’s just too good? A celebrity chef that galavants around his home country and invites us to enjoy the fabulousness of the local cuisine? The release of a semi-successful pictorial cookbook? Or the abrupt attitude I just got from the person who took my call at Red Lantern?
Listen up, people. If you want to make a reservation at this restaurant here are the rules.
Call between 11am and 5pm Monday to Friday. No reservations can be made outside of these times. Yup, that includes the weekend. Sorry, they’re just too busy to open a book or type it into the system. The reservations monkey is only around Monday to Friday.
If you so happen to get a table booked, then turn up on the night all excited and willing …
woops …

“We don’t have a booking for you”

This has happened many times at this (now) pretentious little Vietnamese eating house.

To think, I used to like this place.

Unfortunately, there are enough paying punters out there who lap this sort of thing up. They think it adds to the edginess and cool of living in the Emerald City.

Before you make your reservation, please ensure that you have the correct labelled sunglasses perched on the top of your head, and a certified letter from an approved hairdresser stating that you’ve been coiffed within the last 5 weeks and have your pony tail at regulation height.

i’ve been twice to this place many years ago and wasn’t overly impressed with the food for the price we paid. i possibly didn’t have their best dishes though. but i have a theory a lot of eateries along crown st are for the western market that pay a premium for food which might not be as good as it should but it suits a particular market. a bit like the cockle bay restaurants. that’s terrible they lost your booking — perhaps the booking monkey didn’t hear your name correctly. i like the truthfulness in your review. i think there should be more blogs that start saying it how it is. better luck next time if you revisit
