There’s a little Thai place we’ve been frequenting in our neighbourhood for almost a year now. It’s nothing fancy, nothing overly authentic but fairly consistent in the modern Thai food it dishes up. The staff are as friendly as ever and the servings are quite generous. Here are a few dishes we’ve had in the past and present.

Delicious and juicy tender wings with a sticky sweet and spicy skin. Very moreish!
Coconut crumbed king prawns on a nest of crispy noodles and sweet dipping sauce.
The only thing Mr K ever has – boneless duck salad mixed with Thai dressing, cucumber, red onion, tomato and mixed salad. Very light and very tasty.
Tacky name but not so tacky flavour – grilled salmon with mixed veg in spicy choo chee dressing. The salmon is always cooked to medium-rare perfection.
Crispy salt and pepper soft shell crab with salad and spicy dressing. Deliciously crispy!
One of my favourites here, a massive serving of slow-cooked lamb shanks in coconut cream, potatoes and topped with a fuzzy nest of crispy julienned sweet potato and cashews. Melt-in-the-mouth delicious!

Did I read “black forest prawn” on the chalk board correctly?
What on earth is that?
You read correctly. The chef must have been on crack when he/she thought of that one. No it’s not a chocolate cake filled with cream, cherries, wine and topped with king prawns.
It’s a prawn stir-fry with veg, cashews and “special” sauce. No cherries or sauerkraut here!
Good to see a Newtown/Enmore boy doing reviews of places in the local area. Was in the area tonight but didn’t have dinner though.
I read your blog about Chao Thai and I went to Chao Thai for the first time last weekend. I ordered the deep-fried tofu in peanut sauce for entree, Thai beef salad and grilled sword fish in tamarind sauce for main course. It was a big dissapointment. The tofu was over cooked. Apart from the fresh sword fish, the tamarind sauce tasted too sweet like syrup. The Thai beef salad was too salty, too much shrimp paste flavour, and did not taste like fresh vegetable.
I agree that the staff were very friendly and the price was comparable to other Thai restaurants in Newtown. The food was below standard in taste. That was why it was quite empty and quiet restanrant in Saturday evening while other restaurant was still full of people. The restaurant had only 1 customer when I walked in, and for nearly 1 hour, there were only another 2 people walked in. I think they should improve the quality of cooking if they want to stay in business in Newtown with so many competitive Thai restaurants around.
