We all have our local pizza joint, right? For as long as we’ve been living in Erskineville, three or four years now, we’ve been frequenting Pizza Picasso every couple of months. It’s pretty decent ( better than many), has a nice selection of flat-based pizza that comes served on wooden artists’ palettes a few pasta’s and salads, gelato, friendly service and a faithful takeaway clientelle. Come to think of it, there has been only one time where I ordered something other that the Blue Nude, the only pizza I ever have. Spanish salami, artichoke, sundried capsicum, mushrooms and gorgonzola on tomato base. Beautiful. It’s just a shame the level of gorgonzola varies every time I get it.
Tonights other choice, by Mr K, is something different from the usual Corsica. There’s a handful of “lighter choices” on the menu, you know, less toppings and complications. The Napoli is quite plain with just fresh tomato, anchovies, oregano, mozzarella and olives. Nothing too fussy.
I’m loving the recent fitout with its new lighting, bar and ambient setting, and the owner explained they are yet to lose the window and install bi-folds with a window bench to sit at. Very nice.
Friday 12 March ’10 update
Thunder and Lightning - pepperoni, jalapenos, sundried capsicum, kalamata olives, pinenuts and tasty cheese. It’s perfect. Just what I needed. Saltiness, chilli, a bit of crunch. Perfection. And here’s something you don’t often see under your average pizza. Very little oil. I couldn’t help but take a pic of the barely-oiled paper disc under the pizza. Very impressive.
Pizza Picasso has now closed its dining room and downsized to the kitchen just doing take away and pick-up, with just one small table outside. What used to be the dining room is now Bench wine bar, same owner.

Blue nude does look good indeed.
I was so hoping to see a pizza served on a colour palette Damn! I just give my business strategy away!
yummm, that pizza looks delicious.
what a cute idea with the artist’s palettes as serving plates.
As an erko boy whos world revolves around food myself, its great to see reviews of local places. PP is the only place I will get Pizza now, with the Picasso Club a regular favourite of mine.
I hope to maybe run into you one day enjoying food in the best part of the world.
