The coffee scene in the CBD seems to be getting serious and it’s nice to know you don’t have to walk countless blocks to get a perfectly made cup of goodness to jolt yourself back into focus. Thanks to word of mouth I found out about this relatively new little cafe on the corner of George and Market just next to the entrance of Myer. I always knew there was a cafe here but it seems the previous tenant moved out and a franchise of Taste Baguette moved in. To be honest I’d never heard of them but when someone told me about how good the baguettes were, I had to stick my nose in.

First visit was just for a coffee to pick me up from that mid-afternoon energy slump. The lunch queue was long gone so one of the few tables was empty and had my name writen all over it, for the next ten minutes anyway. Campos Coffee. Bean of the moment for me lately and the one I’m even using at home with my trusty espresso machine. The barista really knows what he is doing here and the macchiato he artfully made for me was superb. The strong balsy kick was like a slap in the face. Absolute perfection.
While sitting there buzzing and off my tits on this gorgeous legal drug I learnt the baguettes they pump out every day are actually baked on the premises every 15 minutes. The
filling options sounded good enough so on my second visit I tried the Portuguese chicken, with lettuce, tomato, rocket and chilli sauce. The high price is typical for the CBD yet the texture of the bread soon made me forget that. Perfectly fresh, made to order, crispy crust, delicious. Not sure where the chilli sauce came into it as it went completely unnoticed.
I just had to go with a sweet ending so I chose one of the beautiful pastries from the cabinet. Brioche with mixed berries. Lovely.

i love Taste. original in surry hills and there’s one under Westpac building which was second. good to know about the Myer one now. i think they’re reasonably priced for the quality and yummy taste. Classic Vietnamese is good.
Tried it for the first time today. The roast pork with crackling was amazing!
