“The Reuben” – rye sourdough, corned beef, sauerkraut, dill pickle, horseradish aioli, Swiss cheese & chips $12.9. This is one sandwich that caught me off-guard a little. On first sight I thought it was a tad over-toasted, which made me think it was about to be a dud. Yes, it was over-toasted, rendering the crust too crouton-like and crunchy, but the filling was flavoursome and well-balanced. The star of the show, the corned beef, is moist, chunky and delicious. Horseradish mayo may not be the same as the traditional Russian dressing, but it was a great match. Very good sauerkraut, but sadly nowhere near enough pickle.
The menu does state chips, but salad was the go as they’d run out. Also, a suggestion could be made to call in advance, as I did, as this was the last one. Thanks to the friendly staff, I reserved it for myself and got there asap.Charlie & Franks 233 Castlereagh Street Sydney 2000 02 9261 5050
