New York style Reuben – Corned beef, mayo, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, mustard, Russian dressing on rye $12.5.
For the record, this cafe took over the previous digs of Spilling the Beans, somewhere that also had a Reuben on its menu. The previous one may have been on the gristly-side, well the one I had anyway, but it was actually a really good sandwich. May it rest in peace.
Here at Lava Espresso we have something that may be considered as trying hard to match its predecessor. This one is toasted in a press, has a lot of sauerkraut and rather thin slices of beef. The flavours are there, albeit quite sour from the generous cabbage, but it doesn’t knock my socks off. Love the big juicy pickles.Lava Espresso 215-217 Clarence Street Sydney 2000 02 9299 7371
